https://www.change.org/petitions/paul-m-deluca-jr-provost-university-of-wisconsin-madison-investigate-acuc-approvals-of-maternal-deprivation-experiments ?

I am associate professor of philosophy at Texas Tech University, with experience in teaching bioethics. I was extremely surprised to read that any IACUC would approve of an experiment that will most certainly cause suffering, and whose results are of dubious benefits, except, maybe, for the career of the PI.
* Heather Cutler ONTARIO, NY This research has been done ad nauseum and you know what? We learned primates who are deprived of maternal care don't turn out to be productive, well balanced primates. I learned that 25 years ago my first degree; I'm on my fourth and have yet to come across compelling information that would lead me to believe blatant cruelty has something else left to teach. I won't support this kind of research and I certainly won't recommend my budding research students for your program in the future.
*Mary Sandford LANGLEY, WA I totally concur with the opinions that have been expressed by my colleagues here. This research is out of date, unnecessary and will cause needless suffering. It fails to meet the litmus tests of todays' ethical standards. I strongly object as a biological anthropologist and as a human being.
*Bonnie Hale PALO ALTO, CA I worked at Stanford University for many years, where a psychiatry researcher did similar work 20 years ago. I'm sure this needless and cruel work adds nothing new to the liter. *Caden Logan MINNEAPOLIS, MN I have a Master's Degree in Educational Psychology. I know and understand the deep psychological and physiological trauma that maternal deprivation causes infants, primate and human. There is a plethora of research that documents this. There is absolutely no legitimate scientific reason for the continuation of such research studies. It is cruel and unethical to say the least. The objectives and goals of this research need to be examined in great detail. I have no doubt that any outcome expectations can be found in prior documented case studies. Do not allow these animals, which have intelligence and attachment capabilities similar to humans, to be experimented on in this manner. Ask yourself: would you allow this to be done on human children? If not, you have your answer.
*Nedim Buyukmihci LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM Causing any individual, regardless of species, to be without maternal care is unconscionable beyond the pale especially given what we already know about the devastating effects of this. Given that there are countless human children who have been, and will continue to be, deprived of maternal care, there is no justification for continuing to cause this abomination artificially. We should be studying these unfortunate individuals in an effort to help them, rather than creating more. Nothing we could learn from purposefully depriving monkeys or other non-consenting beings could ever justify such unquestionably cruel behavior on our part. Nedim C. Buyukmihci, V.M.D., Emeritus Professor of Veterinary Medicine, University of California *Debra Matchinsky BROOKLYN PARK, MN As a member of an IRB on my own campus, I cannot believe that this study was approved.
*Wanda Ballard ANAHEIM, CA ALL animal experimentation MUST be abolished on scientific and medical grounds, because it cannot be extrapolated from one species to another. It is all FRAUD, only to bring in BILLIONS of dollars, for the very SADISTIC and GREEDY "people."
* Susan Sterrett PITTSBURGH, PA We already know this will produce terrible psychic pain for these young animals, and they cannot have any hope of a life that is even tolerable after such deprivation. There is no need for this. So the question of why it was approved should be examined.

“More than 30 percent of promising medications have failed in human clinical trials because they are determined to be toxic despite promising pre-clinical studies in animal models. Tissue chips, which are a newer human cell-based approach, may enable scientists to predict more accurately how effective a therapeutic candidate would be in clinical studies,” according to the NIH.

(collection of amygdala perfusates.?)

The University of Wisconsin, Madison/ (The same that tortured the cat named "Double Trouble" The same university where Harry Harlow tortured baby monkeys 40 years ago)

Wisconsin Regional Primate Research Center (WRPRC)/  The University of Wisconsin/
http://www.primate.wisc.edu/
Wisconsin Regional Primate Research Center (WRPRC ) experiments on 2500 primates every year.
The public is often told that UW laboratories are government regulated, therefore everything must be ok.
This is anything but true. Recent USDA/APHIS reports reveal horrendous abuses at the WRPRC:
 60 rhesus monkeys & 70 marmosets deprived of water 14 hours/day for 5 day
150 rhesus monkeys deprived of water up to 20 hours/day
174 rhesus monkeys deprived of 30% of food intake
150 rhesus monkeys & 116 marmosets confined to restraint chairs for up to 104 hours at a time
19 Rhesus - chair restraint of animals, involved in neuroanatomical and behavioral investigations for up to 12 hours.
12 Rhesus - chair restraint of animals for up to 96 hours for the collection of amygdala perfusates.
A total of 756 (30.4%) of the primates held captive at the UW, Madison/WRPRC experienced either food deprivation, water deprivation, or confinement to a restraint chair. This proves that experimentation at the UW, Madison/WRPRC is inherently abusive.

To whom this may concern,

Even to those who still believe in animal experimentation __ which is know acknowledged as a scientific fraud __ there are limits to be obeyed.

As it is now of common knowledge, ALL animal experimentation MUST be abolished on scientific and medical grounds, because it cannot be extrapolated from one species to another. Its puporse is being only to bring in BILLIONS of dollars for the very same group of bad greedy limited scientists on their "research programs".

Your recent revival of animal maternal deprivation is unethical, painful, with no tangible benefits to human health. It is very hard to anyone to understand how this was sanctioned by oversight committees. I was extremely surprised to read that any IACUC would approve of an experiment that will most certainly cause suffering, and whose results are obviously of dubious benefits, except, maybe, for the career of the PI.

It's time for the University of Wisconsin and other research institutions to stop such cruel and useless experiments on innocent living beings.

Harlow wasn't sick enough way back then with his psychotic sadistic "work," so you want to dig up that corpse from hell and continue his lowdown legacy?

This is genocide for MONEY and the publication of articles of no scientific value. Who's running U-Mad Research, Dr. Mengele's ghost?

Science does not need to know what happens in rhesus' brains, when abused.
But I surely would like to know what kind of THING these "researchers" have inside their heads. Most probably they have undergone themselves maternal deprivation in early chilhood, in order to have such a sadistic and psycho mind.

By the way: these "researchers" would be a far better "object of research": maybe we could indeed establish the basis of scientific knowledge of the develpment of violence and animal/human abuse (serial killers would be better understood this way, I guess, which would be a clear benefit to the human race).

We urge you to STOP this immediately.

And furthermore, to conduct a full investigation of the approval of the maternal deprivation experiments; to make all relevant documents related to the committees' deliberations publicly available; to clarify the role of the ACUCs in rejecting protocols; and to include more public voice in the oversight process at UW.

Is this how public money should be invested?

Thank you,

 (Seu nome)
